Located just north of the equator, between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, Costa Rica boasts secluded beaches, active volcanic regions, majestic forests, and amazing wildlife. With more than twenty natural parks and eight biological reserves, Costa Rica is a nature lover’s paradise. Manuel Antonio National Park has three white sandy beaches and a forest inhabited with a variety of monkeys. You can enjoy fantastic views in this area, both in and out of the park. Tortuguero National Park also provides scenic beauty as well as an incredible network of navigable canals and mangrove forests that are home to a variety of wildlife. And the park’s twenty three miles of beaches are protected nesting grounds for the green sea turtle. Nestled in moisture-filled hanging clouds, Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve offers a unique opportunity to view thousands of species of plants, animals, and insects. If you’re into birding, Monteverde is the place to look for the quetzal, Costa Rica’s colorful native bird. Those in search of adventure can hike around Arenal volcano as it erupts in frequent fiery splendor. You can also try your hand at white water rafting on the country’s wild and scenic rivers. Thrill seekers will want to experience river kayaking or ocean kayaking, and wind surfing champions have called Costa Rica’s Lake Arenal area one of the world’s top five wind surfing spots. Anglers will find some of the best blue water and inshore fishing in the world, along with deep sea fishing along the Pacific Coast from the Gulf of Papagayo to Golfito. If you like to SCUBA dive or snorkel, Costa Rica has an abundance of fish and sea life to observe. The climate in Costa Rica varies depending upon elevation and location. The coastal plains are warm and tropical. Mountainous regions are much cooler, and the Central Plateau has a spring-like climate year-round. The tropical climate has two distinct seasons: wet or green (May-October) and dry or gold, (November-April). To enter the country, a valid passport and round-trip or return ticket are required.
