Years ago, days at sea were spent reading or playing shuffleboard, bingo, and bridge. While those forms of entertainment are still available today, the number of onboard activities has greatly expanded. Heres a look at just a few of the choices available during a typical day at sea. Enrichment Programs – Many cruise lines offer informative talks by famous lecturers on a variety of topics. Holland America Line’s Explorations Speaker Series, for example, is a popular program with the line’s guests. In addition to attending lectures, there are also opportunities for “hands on” learning. For instance, Princess Cruises offers a program called ScholarShip@Sea that includes courses on Web design, digital photography, and pottery. On the new Celebrity Solstice, live glassblowing demonstrations, lectures, and workshops will be featured. Royal Caribbean International frequently offers participation classes such as origami and scrapbooking. Those who are creative in the kitchen can attend cooking demonstrations and classes. Holland American Line, for instance, features a Culinary Arts Center presented by Food & Wine magazine for gourmet presentations, tasting events, and intimate cooking classes. Want to increase your knowledge of wine? Most lines offer wine tastings hosted by a knowledgeable sommelier. Health & Fitness Programs – No need to worry about gaining weight on your cruise if you take advantage of the fitness programs onboard. Today’s cruise ships boast state-of-the-art equipment, and there are plenty of opportunities for workout programs like aerobics, Pilates, circuit training, and yoga. You can even play a round of golf. Most Carnival ships have a 9-hole mini golf course, and most of the major lines have golf simulators that incorporate motion detectors that can track the player’s swing. Royal Caribbean has built a vast sports program that includes its famous rock-climbing wall, ice skating rink, in-line skating route, and boxing ring. Or you can surf on the FlowRider, which is featured on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom Class ships. Norwegian Cruise Lines’ 24-hour fitness centers, swimming pools, and facilities such as basketball courts and putting greens are complemented by activities such as spinning and cardio kickboxing. In addition, the line features “Walk-a-Mile” sessions and nutrition lectures. Princess also offers an extensive selection of exercise classes, fitness programs, and gym supervision. With all the educational, health, and exercise options available on modern ships, you no longer have to be concerned about boredom during days at sea. Trackback(0)
