One of most often asked questions by new cruisers is one about dress code. Being unfamiliar with the whole concept of cruise vacation, no wonder that people are uncertain about how to dress, what to wear and when. Those questions are especially important if your cruise is in whole different climate conditions than one where you live. Also, let’s not forget formal diners when you sure don’t want to get into situation that you don’t have the proper outfit. As in everyday life certain places and occasions require proper dress or suit and it is pretty same with the cruise vacations. Basically, cruise lines try to balance their dress codes between trends of modern society and level of sophistication that they provide on luxury ships. In recent year it is noticeable that many lines loosened up their recommended dress code allowing passengers to express their personality, especially youngsters. Also they try to avoid situations where passengers are forced to buy whole new set of clothes for cruise because it may discourage potential passengers from booking the cruise. Formal night on cruise shipOn the other hand, what cruise would look like without formal evening or cocktail parties where tuxedos and evening gowns shine in all their elegance? So key question is: How to dress properly for every day on ship but in same time packs as light as possible? Image Of course, it is very different if your cruise is on Caribbean or Alaska. For Caribbean or other sunny areas for daily activities wear your summer cotton clothes. Very important is that you wear comfortable walking shoes. Also have a light sweater or jacket in your luggage because you may need it at evening if you like to spend time on open deck. Bring your beach attire but you don’t need beach towels, they are provided on the ships. If you cruise Alaska or Northern Europe make, sure you have few different layers of clothes because weather in this area have tendency to change often. For all outdoor activities warm jackets are necessary especially at evening. You may even bring gloves or earmuffs. Have ready raincoats or umbrellas in case you need them. At dinner dress code can be roughly divided into three categories: Casual, Informal and Formal. Codes may vary from day to day and they are indicated on onboard daily information desk. Casual dress code as it name suggest, allows sport shirts and slacks for man, but usually no jeans. Ladies may wear pantsuits, sundresses or blouses. Informal code includes jacket with optional tie for man and pantsuit or dress for ladies. At formal diner tuxedo or dark suit with tie are mandatory for man as ladies are expected to shine in their elegant cocktail dress or evening gown. It is good to know that big ships offer more dining options and they give you choice if you don’t like to dress formally you can go to alternative restaurants. The line that has most flexible dress code rules is Norwegian Cruise Line with their Freestyle concept. When it comes to choosing proper cruise clothes it applies same rule like for everything else regarding ship vacation: Get informed upfront! Ask your travel agent about all details or research lines dress codes on internet. It is also good idea to get tips from experienced cruisers. Check if your ship has more restaurants with different dress codes so you can choose the one that suits you the better. Tux rental service is also available on most cruise lines for an additional charge. If you decide to use this service your tuxedo, two shirts and probably shoes will be in closet of your cabin when you arrive. When packing your clothes it is always good to spread each individual's clothes in more than one suitcase. So in case that one suitcase is lost (it's still happens sometimes) you will have saved your stuff from the other one. Happy cruising! Trackback(0)
