Stretching 50 miles from the city of Colon on the Atlantic to Panama City on the Pacific, the Panama Canal is the most extraordinary waterway on earth, and the best way to experience this manmade wonder is to pass through it on a modern cruise ship. You can choose from a number of itineraries, which will determine your ports of call. And two cruise lines—Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises—have announced they are adding even more variety to this popular itinerary for 2009. Princess is launching its first two-day visits to the Canal, which will provide an opportunity for passengers to see the locks in action as well as to visit the surrounding countryside. This Two-Day Canal Experience will be included on all of the line’s 2009 and 2010 Canal cruises of 15 days or longer. The experience includes a full Canal transit plus a day with the ship at anchor at Fuerte Amador, on the Canal’s Pacific side. From there, you can reach Panama City, the Sobernania National Park Rainforest, and other intriguing destinations.

Princess also will continue to offer shorter, 10-day cruises that include a single day in the Canal zone. Choose from itineraries that begin and end in Fort. Lauderdale or those that go between Fort Lauderdale and Acapulco.

If you have more time, consider the following possibilities: a 14-day sailing between Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale, a 17- or 18-day sailing between Fort Lauderdale and Vancouver, an 18-or 19-day sailing roundtrip from Los Angeles, or a 20-day cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Vancouver.

Celebrity Cruises also offers more options than ever before for the 2009 season, including a record 18 non-roundtrip sailings through the Canal. And for the first time, Celebrity is featuring a Panama Canal cruise out of Seattle—a 16-night voyage to Fort Lauderdale on the Celebrity Infinity, with ports of call in San Diego, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Cartagena.

In addition to the cruise out of Seattle, Celebrity offers Canal cruises out of Fort Lauderdale, Miami, San Diego, and Valparaiso, Chile.

Whatever itinerary you choose, we’ll help you plan a cruise that will provide you with a lifetime of memories.
